Terrible Twos Started Early?

Kicking and screaming, flailing and crying. Every little thing or nothing triggers a full blown uncontrollable meltdown. Feels like terrible twos started early for my 19 months old little one.

Sometimes a little soothing and talking can help her calm down. Sometimes she is able to calm herself down. But most of the time she is unconsolable. Throwing herself on to the floor, or throwing herself back into her chair.........because we didn't know what she wanted.

She hasn't tried pointing or asking for things she wants yet, she screams instead of trying to speak. It's a endless game of guessing till we get it right. This mama is trying very hard to fit to her little ones frequency to help teach her some patience.

Time out doesn't work most of the time as meltdowns, her emotions escalates too quickly for us to keep up. We are trying our best to disiplin her. Is she too young for us to introduce punishment? Would we be too harsh if we start using force?

This mama needs a break. This mama needs some advice.....

I Don't Know What I Am Doing ...

Almost 365 days since I last wrote a blog post, Baby K is already 17 months old plus. Which brings me to this moment, as Baby K is glued to the TV watching Ben & Holly's Little Kingdom on Netflix; do I still want to keep this blog alive?

I wonder, has social media such as instagram or facebook make me lazy to blog? Friends has suggested that I blog my journey as a new mum. Share my food adventures and craft adventures. But everytime I get time to myself, I'm either too tired or too lazy.

Since the day Baby K was born, my daily schedule follows hers, I have tried creating routines for her which usually results in a total out of control mess. Maybe I'm not strict enough.

Baby K hasn't started speaking yet, and I am starting to feel the pressure. Maybe I'm not reading or speaking enough to her.

Baby K has really short attention span and would rather copy everything I do. Maybe she has too many toys or I'm spending enough time playing with her.

Baby K throws a fit whenever she doesn't get her way or things don't turn out the way she hopes. Maybe I allow to be spoilt or I spoil her.

I rely on the "babysitter" TV/ipad when I want to get things done or craft. Maybe I shouldn't yet maybe I should.

Most of the time I don't know what I'm doing, but I try to adjust and figure things out. I wonder how my mum used to handle me .....

Don't get me wrong, being a mum is actually pretty awesome. No doubt challenging and tiring, sometimes you just want to explode. But when the little troublemaker flashes you her sweetest smile, or gives you a surprise sneak hug; totally worth it!

So am I going to take this blog offline or will I continue to try to blog more often? Still undecided.

Let's Play With Food.

Kyra turned 6 months old this week, which means time for solids or semi solids. Family and friends are so excited wondering when am I going to start giving Kyra porridge and puree (the excitement already started when she was only 2 months old). I was a nervous wreck because I don't know how to cook porridge nor am I keen to make puree. Still, I begun searching around the web and asking my mum what she used to feed us and so on.

One fine lovely day, I saw on Facebook that a dear friend of my bestie was giving her 6 months old her first solid food. A slice of sweet potato. Which got me wondering, aren't babies suppose to eat puree or porridge first? She created a lovely gallery of photos and recipes, which got me more and more curious. BLW. What's BLW????? and the googling frenzy started. I needed to know more!!

So.......... Baby-led weaning (BLW) ........ forgetting purees and weaning spoons, and simply letting your baby feed herself. Alright, I needed to educate myself more on this, time to read up! Time was running out and I have yet to finish reading the BLW book I purchased. I don't feel prepared, what do I do????

Well I discussed with the hubs on this and he was all in for trying to method, letting Kyra play and learn to feed herself. It would make meal time more fun and she would feel part of the family and be more social. Kyra still couldn't sit up very well at 6 months of age, she still needed support, so the hubs said that I should go with my gut feeling.

So today is the first day I let her try some steamed sweet potato. (I picked the tiniest sweet potato I could find in the bunch). Her hand and eye coordination was not bad! she immediately picked up the sweet potato and started sucking and munching on it, clearing enjoying himself.

What's this? It's tasty!

Let me crush you up a little more. Nyumm....

The First of Everything

Surely every new parent or parents cheer in delight and excitement each time their baby does a first. Documenting everything with photos and videos and sharing them on social media and creating scrapbooks.

Kyra celebrated her first Chinese New Year at her grandparents (Mama's parents) hometown up north (Kedah), she had her first Valentine's Day lunch date with mummy and daddy.

It's already mid February and baby Kyra is now 5 months and 2 weeks old. In another few winks, Kyra will be 6 months and gets to start on solids. Boy am I nervous!!! Feeling a bit overwhelmed on should I give only purée? How do I make purée? Omg I need to get a blender. Should I get a whole set of cookware just for only her food? Do I give porridge? Omg I don't know how to cook porridge!!! How long do I steam carrots till they are soft enough for her? ............... *deep breaths*

I choose to worry about all that maybe tomorrow or next week and enjoy today.

Today, 17th February 2016;

At 10:30am - Kyra played with her toys in her playpen quietly till she was hungry and asked for milk.
At 11am - Kyra patiently drank all her milk and sat quietly on my lap and burped.
At 11:15am - Kyra went back to quietly play with her toys in her playpen.
at 12:05pm - Kyra fell asleep on her own at nap time!!

Now mama gets to take a shower and get some stuff done! Weeeeeeee

It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

Just in a few blinks and Christmas is already over. Oh times flies! Soon it will be Chinese New Year!

2015 surely is the year our lives "leveled up" as we welcomed little Kyra! Right after confineyand Kyra's full moon, my mom suggested that I move back to my parents home till Kyra reach 100 days old. Because my mom can't stop worrying if I am eating the right food or if I am able to manage Kyra on my own. (My mom handled my confinement because we sweetly convinced her to)

We all thought it was a great idea, also its my mom's way of saying "I've missed you so much ever since you got married and moved out!!" Needless to say, my dad spoilt Kyra to the max!! He carries her and cuddles her on demand, and even when she doesn't need to be sooth he will still rock her and talk to her. Now Kyra demands attention every waking moment, even when I out her down just to get a drink of water. Grandpas have the best job!

100 days sure pass by quickly when you have your hands full, and it was time to move back to my in-laws. Kyra adjusted pretty well, just as I was so used to having to put her to sleep and waking up in the middle of the night to feed her. On Christmas eve, she slept through the whole night! On boxing day eve, she fell asleep on her own after having her milk. Oh my she's growing up too fast!

2016 is going to be eventful, being a new parents and learning new things with little one, being jobless and stay at home mom so hubby has to work harder. I still can't believe I'm a mom!!!

Merry Christmas and a blessed new year to everyone!

The Day We Welcomed Our Little One

As I finally got to sit down in front of my laptop to actually update my dusty blog, Little One is now 22 days old. Little One popped out and said hello 22 days ago, how time flies! I know some of you definitely are maybe a bit curious on the whole experience and all that, well here is how it all went down. Thinking back it was kind of funny, a little embarrassing and pretty much quite a blur.

I had my scheduled appointment with my doctor just a day before my estimated due date, still no signs of Little One being ready to say hello, and my cervix was apparently still shut tight! So my doctor advised me to get induced if nothing happens at the night of the due date, before Little One gets even bigger. Meanwhile he said he's going to assist in opening my cervix a little, to get the bodily chemicals working (that's how he described it). And boy was it an UNPLEASANT FEELING!! I got to say, from that on, I am freeze every time I hear the doctor or midwife say "We need to check your cervix".

On the day of the expected due date, I had a little false alarm or false scare, whatever you want to call it because I started bleeding a little. Turns out it was nothing, after making a trip down to hospital and discovering that the bleed was caused by my doctor's attempt to assist the cervix in opening up. But by dinner time, that's when the pain started. Of course being pregnant for the first time, and having a baby arriving soon, I would assume that they were contractions. I was scheduled to admit the very next morning to get induced, so I toughen up and wait it out till morning. it was the worst 12 hours I had to endure, watching the clock every half an hour, not being able to sleep with all the discomfort and pain while the hubs snores away.

After the long wait till it was time to get admitted, no time was wasted, the nurses, midwives, my doctor started checking Little One's heartbeat and tracking my contractions then giving me the medication to induce labour. About a couple of hours after I was given the medication, my water started to leak, but nothing was really happening yet but just wait. A lot of waiting and a lot of getting check up on, while the hubs was sweet to accompany me all day in my hospital room. The pain got more intense as the hours past, I was a wuss and ended up asking for painkillers which would make me a little sleepy, and then more waiting.

Nearly more than 12 hours later, my doctor said its time to take me to the labour room to give me some sort of IV drip the help with the inducing, because I was only like less than 4cm dilated, I think? I asked for more painkillers but I wasn't allowed any, but I could only have laughing gas and water. So bring it on! The laughing gas didn't really help much with the pain but it did make me really dizzy and sleepy, so dizzy that I puked and got a little dehydrated. Not long after the doctor finally came in and said "Okay, time to get ready to deliver your baby. You're still not dilated enough but I have to help you already la." Having not slept for more than a day, drugged with painkillers and laughing gas. I was so out of this world all blur and confused, a lot was happening which I will not go into details. I do remember asking the hubs if it was too late to opt for a c-sec because I no longer had any energy left to continue. I do remember the hubs and my doctor laughing saying everything is fine, and no c-sec because the anaesthesiologist already went home.

I was actually sorta half expecting the hubs would be standing one side, but instead he was watching the whole "crime scene" even chatting with the midwives asking when am I suppose to push and all that. I was so impressed! He seemed pretty relaxed through the whole delivery which made everything less of a panic for me. Little One finally popped out to say hello, and she really is a big baby! We were all relieved that everything went well, I'm fine, Little One is fine, the hubs is fine. Though I suddenly had the energy to joke around with my doctor as he stitched me up (she really is a big baby!).

And that's the some what delivery story of the day we welcomed our little Kyra Anne~~!!!!! Next challenge, taking care of a new born, oh dear oh my...

Tuesday, 1 September 2015

The bun is still baking.

It is now exactly one more week till my EDD (Estimated Delivery Date) of our little human. Wonder if she's a punctual one or an early one. Only time can tell. Yes, we are having a little punk rock princess!!

Many have asked, the typical questions and giving advice ......

"Are you ready?"
Seriously? Who ever is??? Especially when it's your first baby.....

"Natural or C Sec?"
I'm listening to my doctor's advice.

"What's your pain tolerance level? You're gonna die from the pain!"
Gee......thanks?

"Are you going to ask for any painkillers or epidural?"
....... I don't think so

"You better more sleep now or else."
Hmm......easier said than done.

"Are you sure you can eat ice cream?"
Come on...seriously? It's ice cream! Give me a pint now!!

"Eat more now! You won't get to enjoy all these food anymore!"
....... I'll live.

Those are just some of the stuff that I can remember that I personally find makes me speechless. But truth be told, I am FREAKING out! The whole pregnancy has its own ups and downs, but this is only the beginning ....... I know that very well. Well I guess we are just going to wing it as it goes.

I am definitely looking forward to mum's home cooked meals though.

Any Day Now

Time is really flying by like a rocket ship! 36 weeks already and pretty soon we will be meeting our little one face to face. Mini human!

Have we bought and prepared everything we need? Did we get the right stuff? Did we get enough? Are we able to set up little one's sleeping corner in time?? Panic mode!!!!

Everything seems more real day by day. Am I ready? Are we ready? No more time to doubt, just go to jump in and wing it. Positive vibes, anything is possible. Amen.

Though we have been getting lots of "advice" on getting more sleep now, or else. Well easier said than done people.....try getting comfortable with a 2.7kg watermelon strap to you. Every turn and movement is a challenge.

And since I am a clumsy person by nature, I have to be extra careful of tripping over my own feet and bumping into stuff. But every other day now, I keep bumping the bump into table corners and chairs........I bet it must have felt like an earthquake in there for little one. Haha.

Counting down the weeks and days now, trying to crochet as many cute stuff as I can and binge watching tv series before I get too busy. Any day now.

"Adventurous" Doctor Visits.

So we are having a little human. What do I do next? Visit the gynea of course, but.... I've never been to one before, in my life!

I really thank God that for almost a year now I started to keep in touch with a high school mate. We have never really spoken before in high school, but was recently reunited by a mutual high school friend of ours during her wedding, and we have been keeping in touch.

She gave me a lot of helpful tips and also recommended that I pay a visit to the gynea she went to when she was pregnant with her little boy. And what an adventure it was!

Turns out the doctor she recommended me is pretty well known and gets A LOT of patience daily. We needed to try our best to be there before 6.30am to grab a number and then register ourselves, and registration time is 8am. We had a lot of time to kill, from having breakfast at nearby mamak to loading movies on my ipad to kill time. Sometimes the hubs brings his laptop so he could do his work.

For our very first visit, naturally we overslept and we went on a weekend so we waited nearly 6-7 hours till our turn! Boy was it tiring, yet thrilling because we get to see our tiny little human in the scans. And from then on, every single visit was an adventure, watching our little one grow from a tiny little egg sac to a mini human.

Time sure flies like nobody's business, we are now at 33 weeks! Can't wait till our next doctor appointment!

How did we keep our little secret?

Obviously by the time this post is up, it is no longer a secret anymore because my bump would be super duper obvious. But apparently still not obvious enough when I take the public transport because some people are still too blind and selfish to give me their seat.

So how did we keep our little secret for almost 4 months?

Having found out that we are having a little human before Chinese New Year, we were concern about family meal times and friend gatherings. Because knowing how much I enjoy my alcoholic beverages and spicy food, along with the compulsory "lou sang" before every meal. Would people get suspicious when I don't eat the yee sang or decline a lovely glass of ice cold beer?

Well, no one noticed or suspected, but only gave me very confused looks went I declined having those delicious white wine that was on free flow during the company's annual dinner.

Fortunately I did not suffer any morning sickness that involves vomiting, but I did however loose my appetite for more than 3 months. I had to force myself to eat every meal, in fear that I might not have enough nutrient. Plus I didn't gain any extra weight until the 4th month which was the time the hubby was about to explode from keeping our little secret for so long.

But now that the secret is out, he can breathe easy now, and start his shopping spree for all things cute! Can't wait to meet our little human :)

What on earth has been happening?

Lack of motivation? Not bothered? Or just plain lazy .....

Nearly 9 months since I last updated my blog! Should I just shut it down since it is only a personal blog? I have yet to decide.

So what on earth has been happening in this silly girl's life, especially since after getting hitched and moving in with the hubby and his family.

October 2014

We finally decided on our honeymoon destination - BORACAY!! WOOHOOO!! It was an awesome vacation and I would to return there again in the near future. We did make a tiny little mistake planning our trip, our stay was too short because we didn't know it would take us a full day to get to the island. Almost 12 hours of travelling!

November 2014

The hubby convinced me to sign up for the Maze Challenge, a way to keep us active and participating on a fun event together. It was not bad, I actually wished there were more obstacles, but then it was a time based challenge.

December 2014

Joined the Run For Your Lives 2014 with the hubby and some friends. Boy oh boy why did I agree to join him on marathons when I don't enjoy long distance running............it was definitely fun getting chased by zombies and going through obstacles. But it was oh so tiring and HOT!!! Our slot was fairly early but some of the roads were closed due to MRT constructions, so we only made it to the race site at almost noon.

January - June 2015

Could say that 2015 started out pretty quiet and slow, yet maybe not so much, because we did have big news which we struggled to keep hidden for almost 4 months! We are going to have a little human, and yes it was planned. We just didn't know that it would happen almost immediately though, so here's to another new milestone in life.

Maintaining Is Tough

In 2013 I was ever so motivated to do something about my weight because I was getting married. Always being much more heavier one in my family, maybe it could be with the fact that I am big boned and I have a larger appetite than the rest of my family. So I decided to give Dukan Diet a try and it worked well for me, I lost a lot of weight (a little too much weight actually so I had to stop it before the end of the diet plan) and was able to fit comfortably in all my gowns.

After the wedding it was festive meals time, Christmas parties, lunches and dinners, and next was Chinese New Year. Non stop feasting, Birthday meals, etc etc. And being off the Dukan Diet, it felt like freedom to me and hello to my favorite pastas and instant noodles! Needles to say I gained back all the weight that I have lost by mid 2014......all 10kg! Sob........

Being a typical human behavior, I kept getting comments and questions from people around me. "Have you gained weight?" "You seem to have to on some meat." "Oh no, why never maintain?"
I am not blind to the fact that I have gained weight, I have always been a bit more "meaty" as I would describe it. All I can say is, maintaining is tough, especially when I was on sorta like a crash diet where I changed all the food I eat daily. I did try to restart Dukan Diet, but it wasn't working out as well as it did last year.

I was talking to the hubs the other say and I complained, "Why can't people just leave my weight alone? Let me enjoy a nice meal! Do I have to get pregnant in order to get people to stop talking about my weight?!?!" And the hubs was panicking, and trying to get me to cool off. Guess I got to start watching what I eat again and watch my portions.

Recently I stumble upon a YouTube channel, Blogilates and I am loving all the lessons there. So here's to loosing weight and toning up the traditional way, exercising and eating healthy. Good luck to me!

Just like any other day? Not so much.

Just like any other morning before I get ready for work, the first thing I would do is check my messages and Facebook notifications.

It was a Friday morning when I opened a news link that the brother in law shared in the family whatsapp group, it was about a MAS plane, MH17 that crashed in Ukraine. As I read the article, I started to feel uneasy when I saw the words "returning to Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam....." because I remembered that my cousin always joked about flying past my dog, Ginger's homeland (near Ukraine) everytime he flies to and from Amsterdam.

Just as I was reading towards the end of the article, Jenn sent me a message on whatsapp "Are you awake?", before I could reply, another message followed "Our cousin is gone........" I froze, I did not know what to feel, the meaning of those words doesn't seem to register to me at that moment. Sadness? Anger? Shock? Confusion? Disbelief? I did not know what to feel.

My thoughts were interrupted by the ringing of my phone, it was mom, I knew what she was going to tell me, that's when I started to cry angrily and cursing whoever it was that shot at a civilian plane! I was asking if it really was his plane? Could there have been a mistake? Mom said it was confirmed at 2am....it was really his plane, on his usual route coming home from Amsterdam. No survivors.

Families, friends and loved ones ... gone. In just a blink of an eye.

I had so many questions, who do I ask? How do I even find the right words? What's going to happen to my cousin in law and her sons? Who is with them at their home now??? The whole world was in shock.

I have lost a cousin. My dad has lost his favorite nephew. My uncle has lost his eldest son. A wife has lost her soulmate. 2 young boys have lost their hero.

We still have a lot of unanswered questions. Will there be a body for us to bury? Will we be able to have a proper ceremony to bid our final farewells? All we can do is wait.

All we can do now is pray that it was painless and quick, that God has taken all the passengers home to a better place without any war or suffering. All we can do is pray for strength and peace for all the families affected. We are all going to be okay, in time.

RIP Captain Eugene Choo, you are dearly missed.

Paper Butterflies and Flowers

Coming up with our Wedding Theme was quite a challenge at the beginning of our wedding planning, because I was stuck in an indecisive phase while my now Hubby wanted to do everything he lays his eyes on! But after much debate and hours of pinterest overdose, we have decided on our favorite colors and a Butterfly theme.

Ninja Ryan : Babe! Let's have paper butterflies! Oh Oh Oh how about paper flowers or pom pom! Maybe those light bulb vases you did for your friend? DIY Queen yo~ Do your thing! How hard can it be?
Me : Time...dude....time....I'm more worried about the time needed to make those DIY rather than the difficulty.
Ninja Ryan : I can help? Just cut cut and glue? Easy right? Right? *big smile*
Me : ...........

And then its down to preparing the decorations DIY style to save cost. We main invested on a large butterfly puncher for our Guest Book, and large quantities of coloured papers. I also grab a lot of origami paper, because I decided to make my own origami bouquet (inspired by pinterest posts) for the pre-wedding photoshoot. Making it was fun and so satisfying because it turned out better than I hoped it would. So we decided that we would make more origami flowers to spread on the dinner tables for our Wedding Ceremony in Passion Road.

We couldn't find the right shade of origami paper to match the table cloths and paper butterflies, so we bought coloured A4 paper instead to cut up into the right size which Ninja Ryan promised he would help. It was straight down to major crafting business when we got home, and he was happy then he cut like 300 pieces of paper thinking he was done for the evening. But after I calculated, i told him we need like another 1000 pieces. Ninja Ryan said it was time we called reinforcements, time we call the bridal party in for help. Although some of the crew couldn't make it, whoever that was available was all hands on deck!

I know that it was going to be a challenge for Kel Li who doesn't do complicated cutting often and Jenn who tends to clumsily cut herself a lot when using sharp tools, so I was worried they may hurt themselves. But Kel Li was champion at folding the origami flower petals, Ninja Ryan was helping out with the folding too. Nora, Jenn and the now sis-in-law Hanna got busy cutting the paper butterflies. We all did all we could till our hands got tired and called it a night. Really grateful for everyone's help. The rest is up to me now to finish up!

All the late nights of cutting, folding and gluing sure trained me to multi-task in watching series while keeping my hands busy sure paid off. Everything turned out so perfect after the bridal party set everything up just before the Wedding Ceremony.

Here are some photos of the process and finished product :)

 The work in progress.

Valentine's Day Flash Back

Ryan and I have been together since 2007, which means by now there would be many memorable romantic Valentine's together, right? Well, I'm not really much of a romantic or big on lovey dovey surprises. I normally don't even know how to react on situations as such.

We went through 7 Valentine's before we got married, but I don't think I got the order right because I am really forgetful....booo......

There was the time we had a lovely cozy candle light dinner at Moussandra – Mediterranean & Tapas Restaurant @ KL Plaza, Bukit Bintang. Once I was in Singapore while Ryan was back in KL during Valentine's because I was spending Chinese New Year with my relatives there. Then there was the year that I was sick with acute bronchitis where all I could eat was steam pork or fish with soup or porridge for a month!

First 2014 Post

Wow, almost 3 months without a blog post. Maybe because every time I click "New Post" I just get memory lost or word block, or maybe just plain lazy like this little puppy....

How Does It Feel To Be Married?

"How does it feel to be married?" The common question you get asked after your own wedding, followed by "So when's Ryan Jr or Jo Jr coming?", "How is it like living with the in-laws?", "Have you been homesick?", "Do you plan to continue working or become a housewife?".

So how does it feel to be married? Honestly? I feel no much different except that I am living in a new environment which fortunately I am able to adjust to quite comfortably. We are talking things day by day, where the hubs seem to spend more time at home accompanying me and catching up on his own personal time. Definitely miss my mom's home cooked meals and talking nonsense with my dad and sis. I won't need to do much chores because the in-laws have a maid, now that is the adjusting part since I'm used to cleaning and tidying up after myself.

When will we have a baby? Chill bro....we've only been married for like a month, we want to enjoy married life :) and the in-laws are great, they have already made me feel part of the family for year, though I still haven't practice calling them Mom and Dad ... hahaha! I haven't been homesick, only miss goofing and joking around with my dad and sis and spoiling my dog Ginger.

Currently I'm still going to continue my working life because come on, nothing is free in this world, got to have financial stability yo. Maybe some day I'll stop working or start my own mini business, who knows, the dreaming never ends and the journey has just begun.

I can't wait till I receive all our wedding videos and photos, meanwhile you've really got to check out my dear friend Nora's blogpost about our wedding. She is a real master in baking all 250 mini butterfly cupcakes as our wedding favors! Thank you! And thank you to all my dear friends for being part of our big day, it couldn't be more perfect.

Only 2 Months To Go

JAN FEB MAR APR MAY JUNE JULY AUG SEPT OCT

IT'S THE LAST DAY OF JULY 2013!! Oh my frigging goodness!! *takes a deeeeeeeep breathe*

At first my wedding date seem to be like miles away, and I kept telling myself that there is plenty of time. I WAS WRONG. OBVIOUSLY! But I feel that I have had quite a lot of the important stuff settled.

These few weeks have been so insane for me, having to deal and handle so many emotionally and mentally draining situations, which always leaves me exhausted by the end of the day that I just want to curl up and go to sleep. No I can't just go to sleep just because I feel like it....my new job scope requires me to be responsible and available at anytime of the day to respond. But I know I will get through this phase. I have a group of people who I really care about that are helping me, though sometimes I admit I do get annoyed as times because I tend to want to handle things on my own. I like to settle things in a quiet manner.

Now I've got set up more meetings with both families to comb out every tiny little details till everything is almost perfect. Everything will work out fine, I just need to calm down and take it one step at a time.

Yay! I have completed my dukan diet journey and have started Stabilization phase where I am suppose to have pure protein days once a week. Feel kind of odd eating like normal, in fact I sometimes feel guilty after having some rice, noodles, or buns. But I still prepare my own dukan friendly lunch to work, it's better than eating "chap fan".

I guess that is all I can update for now on my blog, with the limited breather time I have right now, juggling 2 skype discussions and typing this!
